Born in Springfield, IL, Shawn VanDiver moved to Bakersfield, CA when he was 4. He shipped off to Navy Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL after graduating early from Bakersfield High School in February, 2001 at the age of 17.
Mr. VanDiver has spent his naval career operating in support of the Global War on Terror and the War on Drugs, as well as providing sailors in his unit with force protection and anti-terrorism training. He earned a Bachelors of Science in Domestic Security Management from National University, with a minor in criminal justice, and holds several certifications in homeland security and Anti-Terrorism. He has developed and implemented force protection, anti-terrorism, and emergency management policies for the units in which he has served and continues to serve as a leader in these fields. Additionally, Mr. VanDiver spent several months working for the County of San Diego Office of Emergency Services developing relationships with and providing critical disaster preparedness information to military families in the San Diego area. Currently, he is completing graduate school for an MS in Homeland Security and Safety Engineering from National University.
